Geez a Choon
A project created to provide the mechanism within the region that supports the pipeline of emerging artists. The first of its kind in Dumfries and Galloway, and we are thrilled to share it with you.
We have curated a fully unique experience where our participants worked with industry professionals to write, record and mix a fully produced song. They are continued to be supported by Up Yer Airts to build their presence as musicians, and get themselves out there.
Geez A Choon 2024 involved six young bands/musicians participating in a development weekend, followed by opportunities to perform locally at public music events. The residential weekend included professional support, industry connections, and tasked the musicians with creating and recording a professional-quality piece of music. Following this, participants performed at Music at the Multiverse and received guidance on creating technical specifications and press kits. Given the success of this model, we will replicate this initiative twice yearly across various performing artforms.
This project was developed to address the lack of development opportunities for young musicians in the region. In 2024, it provided a unique experience where participants worked with industry professionals to create a fully produced song. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing that it was one of the best creative opportunities they’d encountered. Given the decline in live music and creative activities due to COVID-19, this project helps nurture young talent and prepares them for a career in music.
