A&R Coordinator Job Specification
Up Yer Airts invites applications for an Artist & Repertoire Coordinator to support artists engaged in our Geez A Choon programme.
This is a fixed-term developmental placement designed for an individual at an early stage of their career who is seeking practical experience within artist development and the contemporary music sector.
Background
Up Yer Airts works with young people and emerging artists across Dumfries and Galloway, providing creative development opportunities, mentoring, and pathways into professional practice.
Geez A Choon is our flagship residential and artist development programme supporting musicians, bands, and producers to develop original work and build sustainable creative careers.
Purpose of the role
The Artist & Repertoire Coordinator will work closely with a cohort of Geez A Choon artists to support their progression towards professional practice.
The role will focus on:
- Developing artists’ understanding of the music industry
- Supporting professionalisation of creative projects
- Assisting with identification and pursuit of live opportunities
- Providing guidance on key music business processes
This role is intended as a development opportunity, offering structured support and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Geez A Choon artists and bands in developing professional materials (e.g. EPKs, pitches, press assets)
- Maintain our Artist Roster section of our website
- Provide guidance on music industry fundamentals, including releases, royalties, and live performance pathways
- Assist artists in identifying and pursuing performance opportunities across Scotland
- Contribute to the coordination of artist development activity
- Maintain communication with the Up Yer Airts team regarding progress and support needs
Support & Development
The successful candidate will:
- Report to the Creative Director
- Receive regular supervision and guidance
- Benefit from mentorship from industry professionals
- Be supported to engage with relevant learning and development opportunities
- Gain practical insight into artist development, live programming, and creative career pathways
This placement is structured as a supported learning experience.
Person Specification
We welcome applications from individuals who are:
- Under 30, based in or with close ties to Dumfries and Galloway
- At an early stage of a career in music management, music business, or the wider creative industries
- Passionate about supporting emerging artists
- Organised, reliable, and proactive
- Strong communicators with good interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- A basic understanding of the contemporary music sector
- Experience using WordPress
- Experience (formal or informal) in artist support, events, or creative projects
Contract Details
- Fee: £14 per hour
- Hours: 4 hours per week
- Duration: 6 month fixed-term placement
- Extension: Subject to funding
- Location: Dumfries & Galloway / hybrid working

Recruitment
After the applications’ deadline date has passed all applications will be circulated to our selection panel of Creative Director, Marketing and Communications Lead and an independent music industry professional.
The selection panel will meet to review applications, draw up a shortlist and invite candidates to attend an interview, ideally face to face at the Loreburn Hall, Dumfries. We will cover all travel costs for shortlisted applicants. However, if for legitimate reasons you cannot come to Dumfries and we would really like to meet you, we will schedule an online interview.
Shortlisted candidates will not be required to make any presentations or provide information additional to that provided in their application and CV. Shortlisted candidates will be asked a series of standardised questions about their skills, expertise and experience.
